3D Trees
Is the fact that some of my trees are 2D in appearance due to the fact that I learn Bonsai from books? I recently read a similar statement and it made me think. This could be very true as the fact that I am a bit isolated in a small rural town with nobody else close by to share ideas, forces me to read a lot of books and look at pictures in magazines.
I then went a bit further and looked at the difference between pictures where a tree is shown from different sides and angles, compared to pictures where a tree is shown from one side only. It does make a difference. I am now much more aware of this problem and hopefully will focus more on getting a bit more depth in my trees.

Yes i found my trees were very 2 dimensional aswell. I also like to look at the tree from above to get a better sense of the branch placement. I suspect you are right that learning mostly from books causes this :) I think the volume of bonsai videos on youtube etc now has helped to get a much better feel for the 3rd dimension.
